Listed Building Repair and Renovation Specialists

The CRB building & construction team have over 30 years experience working on all aspects of listed building renovation and repair.

Listed Building Repair and Renovation Services
Listed buildings can often be problematic to refurbish and repair, due to the higher standards and more stringent planning process required. We have 30 years of experience working with our clients, architects, the English Heritage and The National Trust working on listed, period and historic buildings.

Such buildings require special care and consideration when analysing defects and carrying out repair works. Building techniques used on modern constructions are rarely suitable for older period buildings, nor do they comply with strict listed building requirements.

Projected costs can spiral if work on such properties is not undertaken the in the correct manner. The key to starting this process is conducting a proper and thorough project analysis before starting any work. While many tradesmen wil restrict such a survey to the fabric of the structure, our comprehensive inspection will cover the structure and finishes, roof, walls, floor structures, drainage systems, services and outbuildings - and we'll check with relevant local authorities to ensure that consent and regulations approval are all in order - while ensuring the solution we choose is cost effective, and value for money.

We pride ourselves on reliability, quality of work and providing cost effective solutions.

Case Study - Trevalor Manor - Penzance, Cornwall

This Cornish Manor is a substantial Grade II listed building which was damanged in the 1989 hurricane. The roof was ripped from the building and the rest of the building damanged by wind and water. Unique period features, including 17th century oak panelling, Georgian Dental cornices and mouldings required careful restoration.

The £2 million proect took two years to complete. A large extension was built in addition to the restoration project, and the work was carefully scrutinised by the Victorian and Gerogrian Socieities.

Case Study - Listed Country Cottage
grade 2 listed
This cottage was in a poor state of repair due to neglect and fire damage. The building had evolved in an ad-hoc fashion over the years with repairs and ad-ons using different materials and styles.

A combination of reclaimed brick, local stone and oak was used in the renovation The two gable ends and the first floor were replaced and the chimey was rebuilt. Otherwise, where possible existing walls and strucutres were retained and enhanced.
