Private Drains
A new Government legislation introduced on 1 October 2011 sees water companies in England and Wales take over many sewer pipes, which previously have been under private ownership. They have taken responsibility for the drains, which only serve you when they leave your property boundary – therefore, you will still have responsibility for the drains within your property boundary that purely serves your house.
